Krewe History

Bolivar Point Lighthouse History

We take our name from the iconic Bolivar Point Lighthouse built in 1872. It guided ships into the Houston and Galveston Ship Channels until 1933, weathered storms and sheltered people during hurricanes. It is now a historical landmark and currently undergoing a restoration by the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation.

In 1991 Anne Willis established the Krewe and parade to bring the traditions of Mardi Gras joy to the Peninsula. Each year a theme is selected and celebrated the entire year leading up to the parade. A new King and Queen is crowned at the Annual Ball.

*Each December, we sponsor a community wide Hot Dog Dinner at the annual CrystaLand Christmas Parade.

*Our members voluntarily staff the Beer Garden each year at the Texas Crab Festival.

*Scholarships and donations were awarded to the High Island ISD students and departments in May.

*We traditionally host a booth at the Ghost on the Coast event.
